Tarucas Stun Pampas in Match of the Year

Los Tarucas Pulled-off a stunning win over Los Pampas on Monday in Buenos Aires. The 39-38 victory was full of action as the visiting team won to keep their season alive and add a new twist to the fight for the play-off’s.

In a match with no yellow cards and non-stop action, Los Tarucas held a 29-26 lead at half-time. It was a reflection of the contest as the lead repeatedly changed hands.

Francisco Sluga scored the opening try. In a move reminiscent of Franco Molina’s try against New Zealand in 2024, Sluga went over from an attacking lineout.

Los Tarcuas responded with an impressive try of their own. Tomás Elizalde broke clear from fullback and fended-off defenders. He combined with hooker José Calderón who brushed-off Estanislao Renthel to score.

Los Tucumanos claimed the lead for the first time by scoring again four minutes later. Winger Mateo Pasquini broke clear and darted his way to there try zone by beating five defenders. His opposite, Jerónimo Ulloa scored in response for Los Pampas another four minutes later.

Six players were try scorers for Los Pampas compared to three for Los Tarucas. However, Santiago Heredia was and early replacement and scored a hat-trick. His first try came after Calderón was stopped close to the line. Heredia stretched-out to score while being tackled by Lucas Moresco.

Pampas center Agustín Fraga and Heredia exchanged tries before loose head prop Matías Medrano also scored for Los Pampas. Then, with time-up in the opening half, Stefano Ferro restored the lead for Los Tarucas with a penalty.

The second-half opened with Puma Santiago Pernas scoring in the right corner. It was not converted and this was a problem that cost his side as the match reached its conclusion. Heredia complex his hat-trick on 59 minutes. His final try was from a lineout to maul move.

Los Pampas scored the final try of the contest. It came on 65 minutes with scrum-half, Lucas Marguery scoring under the posts after raids from the forwards.

The final minutes saw both teams having a penalty shot at goal. Ignacio Cerrutti landed his attempt to restore the lead for Los Tarucas but Bautista Farisé strike hit the post and the visitors recovered to kick the ball out for victory.
