Peñarol Stay Alive After Big win over Cobras

Peñarol got the job done in São Paulo on Sunday. The Uruguayan side put in a dominant first-half display to have victory and a bonus point sealed well before the midway stage of the contest. The big win ended at a final score of 35-12 and sees Peñarol staying alive in Super Rugby Americas (SRA) 2026.

The Ivo Dugonjic coached Peñarol were so dominant early on that they scored all of their points in the opening half. It looked like a record score may be on the cards after Peñarol led the match 35-0 at half-time.

The first-half lead saw Peãnrol impressing in the set-piece and also out-muscling Os Cobras in the contact area. Hooker Joaquín Myszka crossed for a double from lineout to mauls and the Uruguayan side were also awarded a penalty try from a scrum.

Peñarol’s additional tries were scored by winger Bruno Baccino and outside center Juan Manuel Alonso. Baccino scored after a fumble by Lucas Tranquez while raids on Os Cobras try line ended with Alonso scoring for Peñarol.

Peñarol were happy to play out the second-half without the intensity of the first. As such, Os Cobras were able to score and did so twice. Canadian Ethan Turner scored from scrum-half while South African speedster Rosko Specman scored seven minutes from full-time. Argentine Julián Leszczynski converted Turner’s try.
