Season over for Old Glory’s Palamo and Fa’anana-Schultz

Two of Old Glory’s best players will take no further part in the 2022 Major League Rugby season, albeit for different reasons. Thretton Palamo is out with a broken thumb, while Jamason Fa’anana-Schultz has received a 10-week suspension for foul play.

The latter was cited following DC’s road win over Dallas. Fa’anana-Schultz was spotted lowering a knee into the face of Augusto Böhme while the Jackals hooker was grabbing his leg on the floor. An aggravating factor was that Fa’anana-Schultz had already been cited and suspended earlier this season for foul play, and received one red card during play last season.

Old Glory opted to appeal the initial decision but it was not successful and Fa’anana-Schultz will now miss the remainder of the 2022 season. In addition to the MLR games, he is also out of contention for the USA’s World Cup qualifier series against Chile in July.

Meanwhile the club have called up outside back John Rizzo to the senior roster. The 23-year-old is part of the academy program and appeared in the preseason game against the Toronto Arrows. Rizzo is now set to make his MLR debut against the Free Jacks on Saturday.
