MLR confirms date for 2022 Collegiate Draft

Major League Rugby has confirmed the date for the third edition of the Collegiate Draft. Fox Sports 2 will air the first round selections at 7pm Eastern (4pm Pacific) on Thursday, August 18. Later rounds will be aired on The Rugby Network.

This year’s format will be identical to that of 2021, with three rounds undertaken. The draft order will be determined by final regular standings with the bottom team selecting first and the top team last. Student-athletes in both the USA and Canada are eligible.

New this year are three official identification combines. One will be hosted by the SaberCats in Houston on June 4, a second over the June 25 and 26 weekend at the Rhinos Rugby Academy in San Clemente, and a third by Wisconsin Rugby in Madison. All are open to players who are not entering the Draft.

In addition, the inaugural Collegiate Rugby Shield will take place on July 2 at Zions Bank Stadium, the home of the Utah Warriors. The Shield is an invitational collegiate ‘All-Star’ event specifically aimed at displaying Draft-eligible talent for MLR scouts.
