Chile to play Scotland ‘A’ as RWC Qualifier warm-up

Chile will play against Scotland ‘A’ on Saturday, June 25. The match serve as a tune-up for Los Cóndores ahead of their historic Americas 2 World Cup Qualifier series against the USA that begins on July 9. It will be played at the Estadio Santa Laura in Santiago, the same venue as the Eagles test.

Though not a full test, Scotland ‘A’ are an official ‘next senior’ side and the match will be treated as a competitive fixture. It’s expected the Scottish lineup will feature several full internationals who will be part of the squad traveling to Argentina for three tests against Los Pumas starting July 2 in Jujuy.

Scotland coach Gregor Townsend attached a statement to the media release:

“Similar to the Tonga match last Autumn at Murrayfield, we will look to use a blend of youth and experience to start off the tour on a positive note. With the World Cup just around the corner, the four matches this summer will allow our players the chance to gain more game time and experience on the international stage.

“We always enjoy connecting with other countries and we are proud to be able to play Chile for the first time. It’ll also allow us another week to acclimatize to similar conditions that we’ll experience in Argentina such as playing at altitude and in a different time zone.”

This will be the first time Chile have faced a representative side from a Six Nations country since the 1954 France XV tour of South America. The USA will play the French Barbarians in Houston on July 1.
