New York signs former New Zealand 7s forward Antonio Kiri Kiri

Rugby New York have announced the signing of Antonio Kiri Kiri for the remainder of the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 30-year-old New Zealander arrives from a four-year stint in England, having previously represented his country in four events on the World Sevens Series.

Kiri Kiri made his senior provincial debut for Manawatu in 2012 and he would be a regular in the Turbos lineup for seven seasons. In 2018 he was called up to the Blues squad for three Super Rugby matches including two starts. Later that year Kiri Kiri made the move to the English Championship with Yorkshire Carnegie. After one season he signed for Cornish Pirates, where he has been based since.

Most frequently used as an openside flanker, Kiri Kiri can also operate at No8. He helps reinforce a New York loose forward group following the loss of earlier Pago Haini to a season-ending hamstring injury. Unlike Haini, however, Kiri Kiri is not US-eligible and will be classified as an import.
