MLR Preseason: Seawolves and Arrows make changes

The Seattle Seawolves and Toronto Arrows have each been forced to make late changes to their preseason schedule ahead of the 2022 Major League Rugby season. Both teams have cited ongoing challenges with Public Health guidelines relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Seattle will no longer be facing the Canada West Selects on January 28. They have instead arranged for a match against the Hartford Harpooners on the same day at Starfire Stadium. The January 22 match against the UBCOB Ravens, also to be played in Tukwila, is still in place.

Canada West was to be comprised of a Canadian-eligible standouts from the inaugural Coastal Cup competition in BC. The Harpooners, founded by former New York winger Marcus Satavu, describe themselves as an MLR development program and have featured a number of MLR veterans such Maikeli Naromaitoga, Matt Hughston, and Nolan Tuamoheloa.

Meanwhile the Arrows will not play their second preseason match against the Ravens that was due to be played indoors at Oakville on January 29. They will still travel to Virginia for the January 21 game against Old Glory DC at The St. James. A revised MLR preseason schedule can be seen here.
