Mont de Marsan sign José Luis Gonzalez

The Argentine player exodus continues. Mont de Marsan have signed José Luis González. The hooker joins the French club from Argentina. The contract will see the 23-year-old playing in the Pro D2 for the remainder of the 2020-2021 season.

The club is bow home to four Argentine forwards. González joins Santiago Montagner, Carlos Muzzio, and Leandro Cedaro. Montagner and González were teammates at Los Ceibos. Muzzio and the Italian-capped Cedaro recently signed contract extensions with the club.

González was named in the Team of the Week in the opening round of the 2020 Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR). The Ceibos hooker had a strong match in the debut against the Olímpia Lions. He started again at hooker against Selknam in week two. The SLAR season was subsequently suspended.

In between SLAR and his move to France, González was in the frame for international duty. He was on the roster for the Tri Nations in Australia. He did not receive game time, making him officially the fourth choice Pumas hooker in the competition.

González was one of 14 uncapped players selected for the Tri Nations. He was an unused replacement in the final match against Australia. This means that he is uncapped. His prior representative experience including playing for the Argentina XV and for Argentina u20’s at the Junior World Championship.
