Season Over for Fernández Following Surgery

The season is over for Patricio Fernández. The fly half from Rosario, Argentina will play no further part in the 2018-2019 season for Clermont. This sees him out of both the Top 14 and the European Challenge Cup.

The 24-year-old has been playing in France for Clermont since 2015. His time at the club has seen prior injuries which have contributed to selection set-backs. These ultimately would lead to him signing for rivals Lyon with whom he will join next season.

In moving to Lyon Fernández will not only remain in France but he will also miss out on playing Super Rugby. The UAR were very interested in acquiring the services of Fernández for the 2019 season. His decision may ultimately mean the difference between selection for a RWC and not.

The injury that Fernández picked up was to his left knee. The extent of the injury is such that the season is over for Fernández following surgery. He was operated on in Lyon on Tuesday and he will not play again for Clermont.

Since departing Argentina for Clermont Fernández has made 64 appearances for the club. His career will continue at Lyon as of July 01. There he is on a three-year deal which may yet be followed by a return home to play Super Rugby.
