Matt Evans extends stay at Cornish Pirates

Matt Evans will be staying at Cornish Pirates for at least one more season. The Canadian international has signed a new deal with the RFU Championship club that extends the winger’s stay in Penzance through the end of the 2019-2020 season.

Now 31, Evans joined the Pirates in 2011 and has been a mainstay in the side since. He has now made 121 appearances for the club, scoring 58 tries. Since making his Canada debut in 2008 he has won 40 caps and tallying 12 tries while participating in the 2011 and 2015 World Cup.

Those totals might have been significantly higher had his career not been blighted by serious injuries. Evans missed the best part of three seasons with Pirates and the entirety of 2014 and 2017 for Canada.

Also currently at the club is Canada lock Brett Beukeboom, who was made club captain this season. Beukeboom joined the team in 2015 and signed his most recent two-year deal in April 2017.
