Australia has confirmed a 34-man roster to tour Argentina. The Wallabies will take-on Los Pumas in test matches in Jujuy (August 29) and Mendoza (September 05). The tour comes as a substitute for the Rugby Championship after New Zealand and South Africa pulled-out to play their own series this year.
The Wallabies are now coached by Les Kiss. He took over as head coach for the recently completed home-and-away series against Japan. Australia won both matches and also ended July as winners over Italy. This sees the Wallabies touring Argentina on a three-match winning-streak.
Kiss’ choice of 34 players is of note. The number is one more than that of Rugby World Cup rosters. Australia will play host to Rugby World Cup 2027 where they open the tournament against Hong Kong in Perth and also face Chile and New Zealand in the group stage.
Harry Wilson will lead the Wallabies in Argentina. Wilson is an experienced campaigner with 41 caps. Fellow back-rowersFraser McReight and Rob Valetini have 44 and 66 caps respectively. The most capped player on the roster is Allan Alaalatoa with 92 caps.
Tom Wright is eyeing a career milestone on tour. The Wallabies’ fullback has 48 caps, meaning he can reach the 50 cap mark should he feature in both test matches.
Kiss opted against selecting Miles Amatosero. The reason for this is that the second-rower is serving a suspension which sees him unable to take to the field for the first test match.
