The Chicago Hounds have acquired loose forward Michael de Waal from the Jackals in exchange for salary cap considerations. Dallas drafted his rights from the Austin Gilgronis during the Dispersal Draft. The 27-year-old returns to the Midwest, having previously lined up for Lindenwood University.
Originally from South Africa, de Waal is US-qualified on residency and recently toured his home country with the USA Falcons. Since missing the entirety of the 2020 campaign with injury he has been a regular starter with the AG’s and was named their Forward of the Year in 2022.
de Waal will find several familiar faces in Chicago, with AG captain Bryce Campbell now officially signed on and Sam Harris hired as Head Coach. The Hounds have started to unveil their roster and are expected to confirm the signing of lock or blindside flanker Mike Matarazzo from the Jackals.
