Chile’s opening RWC match venue may change

Chile’s opening match venue at Rugby World Cup 2023 may change. Los Cóndores are scheduled to play against Japan on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at Le Stadium in Toulouse. Nine months out from the World Cup, doubts have surfaced in France concerning whether the stadium will in fact be ready in time.

Toulouse has been allocated five matches at the World Cup. Chile is the one team from the Americas that stands to be affected. Neither Argentina nor Uruguay are to play matches in Toulouse. Matches include Namibia vs New Zealand, Japan’s matches against Chile and Samoa and Portugal’s matches against Georgia and Fiji.

Chile were allocated matches in four different French cities at Rugby World Cup 2023. Los Cóndores are scheduled to play their pool matches in Toulouse, Bordeaux, Lille and Nantes.

Chile take-on Samoa in Bordeaux England in Lille and Argentina in Nantes. All are new matches for Chile. Los Cóndores vs Argentina will be historic in another way; an all-South American fixture will take place at a Rugby World Cup for the first time.
