Free Jacks welcome Vili Toluta’u from Seattle

Seattle Seawolves favorite Vili Toluta’u has made a surprise move to the New England Free Jacks. The one-time US Eagles flanker has signed a one year deal just weeks out from the start of the 2021 Major League Rugby season. He has also confirmed a full-time shift from the back row to hooker.

Toluta’u, 27, burst into the spotlight after playing a starring role for the Seawolves during their inaugural title run in 2018. He made his test debut against Canada that summer, but injury at the start of the 2019 season knocked him out of contention for a spot on the Rugby World Cup 2019 roster.

The front row is not entirely new for Toluta’u. He has trained at hooker throughout his MLR career and made three appearances at the position for the Seawolves in 2020. At New England Toluta’u will be one of four hookers along with Pieter Jansen, Steven Hinshaw, and Nick Hryekewicz.
