Chile Blast Hong Kong at U20 Junior Challenger

Chile blast their way to victory over Hong Kong at the World Rugby Junior Challenger on Friday. Playing with home advantage, Chile were 83-19 winners in the u20 contest at CARR de Parque Mahuida.

The home side had dominance over Hong Kong from early on. Max Schlesinger scored the opening try on six minutes. It was not an isolated try. Tomás Queirolo and Cristóbal Serrano added further scored while Jaime Soler converted.

Hong Kong opened their scoring on 26 minutes. It was not a turning of the tide, however, as Chile continued to control the match and held a 39-7 lead in the opening half.

Mateo Alcaide extended the Chilean lead on 48 minutes. The match then changed with the heavens opening up. The match was delayed but when it did resume the proceedings were similar to earlier with Chile outscoring their Asian opponents.

Captain Marco Alvano scored twice for Chile in the second-half. The contest concluded with Chile winning 83-19. The 64 point advantage places Chile on top of Group A. The other fixture on Friday saw Romania edging Brazil by a single point. The four teams are joined by Group B competitors Belgium, Canada, Namibia and Portugal. Six of the eight countries will feature at the senior men’s level at Rugby World Cup 2027 in Australia.
