World Rugby is officially ready to kick off the new year with a high-stakes race for global rugby promotion that will be heavily decided on South American soil. The international governing body has confirmed the dates and destinations for the 2027 SVNS 2 rugby sevens circuit.
Serving as the crucial second-tier promotion pathway, the 2027 season holds heightened significance as national teams accelerate their preparations and competitive push toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The streamlined three-tournament international tour will feature six men’s and six women’s teams battling across Africa and South America throughout January and February, with South American stadiums hosting two out of the three high-stakes legs.
The action kicks off on January 23–24, 2027, in Nairobi, Kenya, marking a historic international debut for the brand-new, 60,000-capacity Talanta Sports Stadium. From there, South America takes complete control of the season’s destiny with back-to-back high-intensity tournaments. The circuit makes its first South American stop on February 20–21, 2027, roaring to life at the Estadio Charrúa in Montevideo, Uruguay. The entire season then builds to its grand finale just a week later on February 27–28, 2027, where Brazil will host the ultimate concluding showdown at the Estádio Nicolau Alayon in São Paulo to solidify the final standings.
The ultimate goal for these competing nations is a top-four finish in the aggregate standings after the three legs conclude. The top four men’s and women’s squads will earn automatic promotion to the prestigious SVNS World Championship tournaments held later in the spring across Hong Kong, Spain, and France. Once there, teams will compete for a top-eight finish to secure a highly coveted, permanent core spot on the primary top-tier SVNS Series for the following season.
