2026 Sudamericano SAR 7’s – Day 1 Results

The Sudamericano de Seven 2026 (SAR 7s) serves as a critical qualification gateway for regional teams looking to make their mark on the international stage. This high-stakes tournament offers direct slots for the upcoming World Rugby Sevens Challenger (SVNS 3) and determines regional qualification for the Lima 2027 Pan American Games. Additionally, the top eight finishing teams in both the men’s and women’s brackets will secure essential spots for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic regional qualifiers scheduled for mid-2027.

A total of 22 national teams converged at the Carlos Paz Rugby Club in Villa Carlos Paz, Argentina, featuring 12 teams in the men’s division and 10 in the women’s division. The marquee attractions include the host nation’s premier rugby squads—the internationally acclaimed Los Pumas 7s and the rising Las Yaguaretés—competing against South American powerhouses and developing nations like Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Guatemala, Ecuador, and the Dominican Republic.

In the women’s bracket, Las Yaguaretés put on a breathtaking masterclass in defensive resilience and lethal attacking rugby, rolling through Pool A without conceding a single point all day. The Argentine women notched commanding shutout victories against the Dominican Republic (62-0), Guatemala (69-0), and Paraguay (36-0). Beyond Argentina’s clear dominance, Paraguay put together an impressive first day of rugby, bouncing back from earlier rounds to defeat a resilient Uruguay side 25-22 in a thrillingly tight match before being stifled by the clinical host nation.

The men’s competition delivered drama, heavily highlighted by the local favorites Los Pumas 7s putting on an offensive show in Pool A by dismantling Paraguay 59-0 and grinding out a 24-7 win against a strong Colombia squad. Meanwhile, over in Pool B, Brazil firmly asserted themselves as tournament heavyweights, securing emphatic lopsided victories over Ecuador (70-0) and Peru (60-0). Brazil then faced their ultimate test of the day against Colombia, narrowly surviving a fierce battle to secure a dramatic 19-17 win that capped off an exciting day of rugby.

Day two shifts the tournament into high gear, as the preliminary rounds conclude on Sunday morning before transitioning into the decisive knockout phases. Fans can look forward to critical final pool games, such as the marquee women’s clash between Argentina and Uruguay. Following the early pool conclusions, the stakes escalate significantly into the afternoon as the top-performing teams clash in the Gold Zone semifinals and medal placement matches to crown the regional champions and finalize the tournament’s coveted pathway slots.
