Monalisa Freitas was the star for As Yaras as Brazil celebrated victory over South Africa ‘A.’ The non-capped match featured a second-half hat-trick from Freitas in what was a 29-19 win.
Played on Sunday in São Paulo, Brazil’s 29-19 victory came as a welcome farewell for As Yaras who are to compete at the WXV Global Challenger.
Before traveling to China, the Brazilians warmed-up by playing against South Africa A and the USA Falcons. Sunday’s win over SA Women’s A was hard fought. The visitors held a 19-5 lead at half-time. Brazil’s only score of the half went to Gi Pereira after good work from Milena Mariano.
South Africa’s lead came with three consecutive tries before As Yaras hit-back through Mariano. Monalisa turned the tide with her three tries while Eshyllen Coimbra added a late try to see Brazil win by ten points while keeping South Africa A scoreless in the second-half.
