Los Pumitas fell to Scotland in their 5th place semi final at the World Rugby Junior Championship. It was a match in which Argentina fell short of expectations in being soundly defeated 44-26. The poor showing from Los Pumitas means their remaining match will determine whether they finish 7th or 8th.
Scotland scored seven tries while Argentina scored four. The first Pumitas try of the match was a penalty try in favor of Los Pumitas. It saw Scotland a players down for ten minutes as Dan Halkon was yellow carded. Before then Scottish tight head prop Ollie Byth-Lafferty had entered the try zone.
Los Pumitas failed to add to their penalty try. Scotland were playing the better rugby and in command with a 19-7 half-time lead. Hooker and captain Joe Roberts scored tries in both halves while winger Nairn Moncrieff also scored for the Europeans in the opening half.
The second-half saw Scotland scoring four tries compared to three Pumitas tries. The Argentine scorers were winger Bautista Lescano (51′), center Pedro Coll (60′), and center Ramón R Fernández (75′). The early scoring in the second-half saw Los Pumitas back in the match with Scotland holding a 24-19 lead at the start of the final quarter.
