Peñarol Secure Home Super Rugby Americas Final with win over Selknam

The Super Rugby Americas 2025 Final will be played in Montevideo. Peñarol booked a home final thanks to winning their Semi Final 34-18 against Selknam on Friday evening. The match followed the first Semi Final in which Los Dogos completed a road win over Los Pampas in Buenos Aires. Peñarol finished the regular season in 2nd while Los Dogos were 4th. It means the Uruguayans will play in front of their home supports in the 2025 Final next Friday.

MATCH NOTES
  • Lucas Bianchi opened the scoring. The flanker combined with Manuel Diana to slice through a gap to score.
  • Felipe Etcheverry missed the conversion from Bianchi’s try sand also missed a first-half drop-goal.
  • Peñarol went 12-0 up with a penalty try late in the first half.
  • Tomás Salas got Selknam on the scoreboard two penalties early in the second-half.
  • Portuguese fullback Manuel Cardoso Pinto scored on 52 minutes for Peñarol. Hooker Joaquin Myszka then went over to give Peñarol a 22-6 lead. It could have been higher had Etcheverry been more accurate at kicking goals.
  • Selknam scored tries through Raimundo Martinez and Cristobal Game but it was academic. Peñarol also added a try with Felipe Arcos Pérez over in between the Selknam tries.
  • Peñarol are now 80 minutes away from winning a third Super Rugby Americas title. They face the defending champions, Los Dogos who defeated Los Pampas in the 2024 Final.
  • Selknam’s exit will see attention turning to the July Internationals. Los Cóndores face Romania on Saturday, July 05. It will be preparation for the Rugby World Cup 2027 Qualifiers in which Chile face Brazil home-and-away in July.
  • Both Peñarol and Los Dogos are prior champions while Los Pampas and Selknam have never won SRA.
