Historic: Argentina Sevens Champions of 2024 League Season

Argentina finished 5th at the Singapore 7’s. The result means that Los Pumas 7’s finished the regular Sevens season in top spot. Argentina recovered from a Quarter FI al loss against Ireland to defeat South Africa 14-10 in the 5th Place Final.

Argentina’s final position at the Singapore event took the team to 106 season points. The team’s historic season includes titles at the Cape Town Sevens, Perth Sevens and Vancouver Sevens. The South Americans also won Silver in Dubai.

The historic first place comes with the Paris 2024 Olympic Games rapidly approaching. Before then will be the season’s Grand Final tournament. Madrid, Spain will host the event from May 31 to June 02.

The Paris Olympics fall three years after Argentina won Bronze at the Tokyo Olympic Games. Fiji won Gold and New Zealand Silver. They finished the 2024 Sevens World Circuit Season in 5th and 4th places respectively.

Argentina’s first-ever Rugby Sevens World Sevens title means Los Pumas Sevens are in a truly elite group. The competition has happened annually since 1999. Prior Champions are New Zealand (14 times), Fiji (4 times), South Africa (4 times), Australia (1 time) and Samoa (1 time). This furthers the Southern Hemispheres’ hegemony of the circuit; no Northern Hemisphere side has won a season.
