Three Finalists for Argentina’s Prestigious Olímpia de Rugby 2023

There are three finalists for Argentina’s prestigious Olímpia de Rugby 2023. The official best player of the year will be unveiled as part of Argentina’s annual awards for sporting excellence on Tuesday, December 19. The nominees are Marcos Kremer, Rodrigo Isgró and Sofía González.

Kremer was among the leading Pumas at Rugby World Cup 2023. He made history by smashing the record for all-time tackles completed at a Rugby World Cup. Kremer started in every match for Los Pumas in the tournament.

Isgró joined Kremer in the side that defeated Chile in Nantes. He also played in the warm-up win over Spain and made his test debut in the Rugby Championship against the Wallabies in Australia. However, it was his year with Los Pumas 7’s which saw him earn the call-up to Los Pumas. He was named as the best 7’s Player in the world for 2023.

Sofía González had a stand-out year for Las Yaguaretés. The Argentine team made history by dethroning Brazil from the Women’s South American 7’s. It marked history with Argentina winning for the first time.

Last year’s rugby winner of the Olimpia de Plata was Emiliano Boffelli. Marcos Moneta won in 2021 and Guido Petti in 2019. Of the prior rugby winners three have gone on to win the grand prize as Argentina’s best from all sports: Aitor Otaño (1965), Hugo Porta (1985) and Gonzalo Quesada (1999).
