Juan Cruz Mallía and Santiago Chocobares pen new deals with Toulouse

Juan Cruz Mallía and Santiago Chocoabres will remain at Toulouse. Both Argentine backs have signed new contracts with the French giants. Mallía has signed to remain at Toulouse until 2026 while Chocobares’s new deal is until 2025.

Mallía has made 36 appearances for Toulouse. He has scored 13 tries for the club. Chocobares has played less due to injuries. He has nonetheless left his mark with 4 tries from his 21 appearances for Toulouse. 18 of his 21 matches have been starting at center.

Toulouse signed Mallía as a medical joker from Los Jaguares. He was subsequently joined by Santiago Chocobares. Both players were involved in the Top 14 final and both are now contracted to Toulouse on long-term deals.

Mallía joined Toulouse following three seasons of Super Rugby. He played for the Argentine franchise from 2018-2020, doing so at fullback, wing and in the centers. He has done the same for Toulouse while he is Argentina’s starting fullback. Chocobares is a natural inside center.

Both Mallía and Chocobares are from the Argentine mainland. That is to say, neither player is from Buenos Aires. Mallía is from Córdoba while Chocobares is from the small town of Rufino in Santa Fé province.

In his inaugural season Mallía started wing for Toulouse in the Top 14 final with Chocobares at outside center. Mallía was outside center, and scored the match-winner for Toulouse in the 2021 European Champions Cup Final.

Both Mallía and Chocobares have now signed to stay long beyond Rugby World Cup 2023. Both are expected to be heavily involved for Argentina. Los Pumas will prepare for the World Cup with the Rugby Championship, an additional match against South Africa and a match against Spain in Madrid.

The Top 14 season is approaching its climax. Toulouse face Racing 92 in their Semi Final. The winner will take-on Bordeaux or La Rochelle in the Final. Both Semi Finals will be played in San Sebastian, Spain.
