Colombia impress, USA Women unbeaten in Vancouver

The USA are unbeaten through two rounds of the women’s draw at the Vancouver 7s. Canada, Brazil, and Colombia each failed to win a match but the latter impressed with a competitive showing against Fiji.

Las Tucanes are an invitational side and were handed a harsh welcome to the tournament by New Zealand. They went toe-to-toe with the Fijians. After a rough start, Colombia fought back with four tries including three in the second half.

The Eagles cruised past Brazil in their first match and then overpowered Canada in the final match of the day. Cheta Emba scored what turned out to be the game winner.

Canada had earlier been defeated by Ireland. Brazil lost both matches convincingly but managed to score consolation tries in each.

Bianca Farella scored for the Canucks against the USA. The two-time Olympian is playing in her 44th Sevens Series event, tying the mark set by Australia’s Sharni Williams.

The final round of the pool stage will see Canada squaring off against Brazil and the USA challenging Ireland for Pool C superiority. Colombia’s next match is opposite Great Britain.
