USA Hawks to face Super Rugby Americas teams

More interregional rugby is on its way in the Americas. The USA Hawks will play matches against Super Rugby Americas teams. Games are to take place in both South America and North America. Confirmation of the tour follows another; Georgia’s Black Lion also has a series of matches coming up.

Officially a USA Rugby development team, the USA Hawks were founded in 2005. The team competed in the North American 4 (NA4) as one of two USA teams. The other being the USA Falcons. The teams joined two Canadian sides, Canada East and Canada West.

The NA4 was a development project designed to lift the level of domestic-based players in North America. Players of note who featured for the Hawks include Paul Emerick, Owen Lentz, and Louis Stanfill. Unlike then, the contemporary Hawks are being assembled at a time with professional rugby in the USA.

The Hawks will play five matches against Super Rugby Americas teams. Matches are to be in Chile, Argentina and at the team’s home base of Charlotte, North Carolina. The team will be assembled quickly ahead of the opening match against Selknam o March 04 in Santiago, Chile.

The Hawks will face Selknam and Pampas in South America as well as taking-on a development side from Argentina. That team will be Argentina Desarrollo. Home matches will be against Brazil’s and Paraguayan’s Super Rugby Americas sides, Os Cobras and Yacare in April. A home match is also being scheduled against Colorado side the American Raptors.
