Georgia’s Black Lion to face Super Rugby Americas teams in South America

In an exciting development, Black Lion will tour South America in April and May. The Georgian Rugby Union has confirmed that the professional team will face Super Rugby Americas teams Los Dogos, Los Pampas, Peñarol, Selknam and a Sudamérica XV.

Georgia’s front-line home-based players are Black Lion players. The tour will see them up against South American players from Chile and Uruguay who will play at the World Cup. The tour will also take-in matches against Argentine sides. Players from previous years have gone on to join elite teams in rugby’s leading professional leagues.

The tour itself is being used as preparations for the World Cup. Black Lion will have five matches in South America and be based in Montevideo. The Georgians will play four of their five matches at the Estadio Charrúa in the Uruguayan capital. The remaining matches will be against Los Pampas at Casa Pumas in Buenos Aires.

The tour will begin against Los Dogos on April 09 and conclude against Peñarol on May 06. The matches are positioned to coincide with bye rounds in Super Rugby Americas. Click here to access the Super Rugby Americas 2023 page.
