SaberCats sign NPC duo Drew Wild and Vereniki Tikoisolomone

The Houston SaberCats have confirmed two more recruits from New Zealand’s National Provincial Championship. Outside backs Drew Wild and Vereniki Tikoisolomone follow props Rob Cobb, Morgan Mitchell and Fatongia Paea to Texas for the 2023 Major League Rugby season.

Wild is just 22 years old but already has four seasons of senior NPC rugby on his resume. The fullback debuted for Manawatu in 2019 and was long-listed for New Zealand’s entry for the cancelled 2020 World Rugby u20 Championship. He was first choice for the Turbos this past year.

Tikoisolomone has impressed on the wing with Taranaki for the past two years. He was added to the Highlanders squad in 2022 but did not make a Super Rugby appearance. The 24-year-old lined up for the New Zealand Barbarians against a Heartland XV in 2021, and previously trialed for the Fiji u20 side.
