Arrows flyer Avery Oitomen to return after 3-year hiatus

Avery Oitomen is returning to Major League Rugby. The former Arrows flyer has signed with Toronto for the 2023 season, three years after becoming a trying-scoring sensation with the club as a 19-year-old during the team’s inaugural campaign.

Oitomen exploded into the scene in 2019, making 11 appearances on the left wing. Despite starting only 8 games, he scored 6 tries that season which was second only to club captain Dan Moor. Two tries came during a memorable come-from-behind road win over San Diego in March of that year.

Selection to Canada’s u20 side then followed for Oitomen, but a concussion suffered in one of the matches ruled him out for several months. Further injuries saw his return delayed and though attending Cardiff Metropolitan University in Wales, he has not taken the field since.

Now fully fit, Oitomen joins three previously announced signings as wing options for the Arrows. Fellow Canada u20 select Kobe Faust returns, while newcomers include senior Canadian international Cole Davis and former Fiji Rugby League player Fabian Goodall. The former makes the move from ATL and the latter from the Shute Shield in Sydney, Australia.
