Paraguay Ready for South American Tri Nations

Paraguay is ready for the 2022 South American Tri Nations. The tournament will take place in Barranquilla, Colombia and feature the test teams from Brazil, Colombia, and Paraguay. All three teams have players from the region’s professional league, the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR).

Paraguay will face Colombia on Saturday, August 20 and Brazil on Wednesday, August 24. Brazil is ranked above Paraguay and Colombia. Paraguay (Los Yacarés) are 47th in the world while Brazil (Os Tupís) are 29th and Colombia is ranked 34th. Rankings will be on the line in all three matches in Barranquilla.

As was the case in SLAR 2022, the tournament will be broadcast in Latin America on Star+ / ESPN.

Paraguay’s roster includes Olímpia Lions players. Among them are forwards Daniel Cabral, Emilio Gorostiaga, Luis Enrique Quintero, Estefano Aranda, and Mariano Garcete. Backs from SLAR include Sebastián Urbieta, Gianfranco Parodi, Juan Chilavert, and Juan González. The Paraguayan roster also includes Arturo López. The winger was born and raised in Argentina. He qualifies for Paraguay via ancestry. He has played u20’s for Paraguay.

The competition is the 2022 version of the South American B Championship. The RWC 2023 qualified trio of Argentina, Chile and Uruguay are South America’s ‘A’ teams.
