Chile name strong roster for Challenger 7s

Chile have put forward a strong group of 12 to compete at the World Rugby Challenger Series event at the Estadio Santa Laura in Santiago this weekend. The team is led by long-time coach Edmundo Olfos and former Pumas flyhalf Joaquín Todeschini, and captained by Joaquín Huici.

Alfonso Escobar joins the group after helping Los Cóndores achieve their historic qualification for Rugby World Cup 2023. Luca Strabucchi, Julio Blanc, and Lucas Westcott are also capped, while every other player has appeared for Chile’s ‘A’ side in the 15-a-side game.

The Chileans will be among the favorites at home. They are competing in Pool A with South Korea, Papua New Guinea, and Georgia. A core spot on the World Sevens Series is up for grabs to the winner.
