Phenomenal Argentina XV Roster Named for Portugal and Georgia Tour

A phenomenal Argentina XV roster has been confirmed for July’s tour of Portugal and Georgia. Argentina’s next-of-XV will play in two non-capped matches against test teams from the Rugby Europe Championship.

Head Coach Ignacio Fernández Lobbe has a team included established players and veterans of Rugby World Cups. It is a very strong side with many inclusions indicating how tough it will be to earn test caps in 2022 and 2023.

The team will be captained by Francisco Gorrissen. The flanker plays his rugby in France for Vannes. He is joined by Facundo Bosch, Ignacio Calles, Lucas Mensa and Joaquín Oviedo as French-based players on the roster.

There are also players who play in Australia, England, Italy, Scotland, Wales, the USA and in SLAR for teams from Argentina, Chile and Colombia. Matías Moroni and Santiago Socino are big name inclusions from the English Premiership as is Santiago Medrano from Super Rugby.

Georgia has qualified for Rugby World Cup 2023. The Lelos have competed in every RWC since their first appearance in 2003. They have previously faced Argentina at RWCs 2007, 2011 and 2015. They last met in a test match in Jujuy in 2017.

There have also been matches bewteen the Argentina XV and Georgia. The Argentina XV has one win and Georgia two. The Argentina XV won 26-26 in Tbilisi in 2014 while Georgia won 14-13 in Bucharest, Romania in 2011 and 24-22 in Tbilisi in 2009.
