Rugby Canada hires former Glasgow Warriors chief as new CEO

Rugby Canada have announced the hiring of Nathan Bombrys as their new Chief Executive Officer. The 47-year-old is currently employed by Scottish Rugby as Head of International Commercial Projects and will formally take charge this summer, though Rugby Canada have not clarified a start date.

Bombrys is originally from Michigan and played rugby for Syracuse University before moving to the UK. He spent nearly a decade as Marketing Director for Sale Sharks in the English Premiership and was then appointed Managing Director of Scottish professional side Glasgow Warriors in 2011, a position he held until April of last year.

The initial challenge for Bombrys will be to restore confidence in the organization, which has been mired in controversy in recent years. An independent review was released last month that highlighted Rugby Canada’s internal problems and poor relationships with both players and supporters.

Jamie Levchuk has been Interim CEO since February 1 and will continue until Bombrys begins, at which time Levchuk will return to his position of Managing Director, Revenue and Fan Engagement. Allen Vansen stepped down as CEO in January after six years in charge.
