Jaguares XV Get Past Cafeteros Pro

Los Jaguares XV were 26-17 winners against Los Cafeteros Pro on Saturday. The victory was hard fought; Los Cafeteros Pro had held a 10-0 lead and were in control early. Two yellow cards turned the tide as Los Jaguares XV were 15 against 13 for a period and made it count.

Argentine scrum-half Eliseo Morales opened the scoring, only he did so playing for the Colombian side. Morales touched down in the try zone for a superb score. The 5th minute effort was converted and Los Cafeteros Pro were hungry for more.

More points would come, albeit not through a traditional score. It came with Julián Hernández punishing a Santiago Mare goal-line drop-out with authorities. The return from the 40 meter mark was on target and gave the men in yellow a 10-0 lead to open the second quarter.

The third quarter saw all points scored by the Argentine side. Los Jaguares XV hit-back following the double yellow carding; Los Cafeteros Pro lost Gregório Hernández and Brian González within two minutes of each other. Santiago Ruiz and Martín Bogado both scored while it was 15 vs 13 men.

The teams had scored once try each in the first half. The second half was three tries to one in favor of Los Jaguares XV. Bogado’s 41st score was his first of two. His second came eleven minutes from full-time while captain Tomás Cubilla also scored.

Despite the flurry of scoring from Los Jaguares XV, it was not one-way-traffic. Instead, sustained pressure culminated in Diver Ceballos touching down for Los Cafeteros Pro. His try made it a nine point scoreline late in the match. It could have been less had Morales not missed an earlier penalty.

The outcome sees Los Jaguares XV gaining the competition points. They are now on 21 points, two more than Peñarol and Selknam. Peñarol are yet to play their round six fixture. They are expected to claim the points against Os Cobras Brasil XV.

Both Los Jaguares XV and Los Cafeteros Pro play again on Friday. The Argentine franchise will be up against the Olímpia Lions while the Colombians take-on Peñarol.
