Bahamas to host 2022 RAN 7’s Qualifiers in April

The 2022 Rugby Americas North (RAN) 7’s qualifiers will be played in the Bahamas in April. The two day event will take place at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas on April 23-24.

The full list of competing teams, pools and tournament structure is forthcoming. The tournament itself is to be the first RAN competition since the Fireminds RAN Sevens in Turks and Caicos, where Jamaica lifted the trophy as champions with a 21-7 win over Mexico.

The event will include both Men’s and Women’s senior competitions. They are to be qualifiers for the 2022 Rugby Sevens World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa in September while members of the British Commonwealth will also be playing for places at the 2022 Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, England in July.

The Men’s and Women’s Champions as well as Runners-up will qualify for the 2022 Rugby Sevens World Cup. The top-placed Men’s team from the British Commonwealth will qualify for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. That team will join the pre-qualified Canada in Birmingham.

Meanwhile, the USA Men’s and Women’s Eagles 7’s have both already qualified for the 2022 Rugby Sevens World Cup. This is based on how they finished at the 2018 Rugby Sevens World Cup in San Francisco, California.

Argentina, Chile and Uruguay will also play in the Men’s tournament while Brazil and Colombia have qualified for the Women’s. In short, SAR and RAN will both be represented by three Men’s and two Women’s teams in Cape Town 2022.
