Old Glory signs rugby league international Junior Sa’u

Old Glory DC have announced the signing of center Junior Sa’u on a one-year deal through the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 34-year-old joins from rugby league club Leigh Centurions and has represented both New Zealand and Samoa in the 13-man code.

Sa’u is originally from Auckland but grew up in Brisbane, Australia. He signed his first professional contract in 2008 with Newcastle Knights and after a brief stop with the Melbourne Storm he moved to England with Salford Red Devils in 2014. A short-term loan to Wakefield Trinity led to his most recent two-year deal with Centurions.

Standing 5’9″ (1.75m), Sa’u is a powerful ball carrier with a low center of gravity who is also known as a punishing tackler. He will need to adjust to rugby union but adds a veteran option to Old Glory’s midfield that already features international duo Thretton Palamo and Doug Fraser.
