Final Rosters confirmed for Edmonton 7s

Final rosters for the first ever World Sevens Series event in Edmonton have been confirmed. The tournament takes place over Saturday and Sunday with 12 Men’s teams competing in three pools. A round-robin exhibition format will be used for the four Women’s teams.

A number of changes have been made to Men’s squads. Canada will hand a debut to Thomas Isherwood in place of Elias Ergas. South Africa will be absent Angelo Davids due to injury but have a more than capable replacement in Selvyn Davids. Mexico have activated veteran Erik Castillo who had been coaching the Women’s side.

The USA have lost Cody Melphy but welcome Marcus Tupuola back to the squad. Jamaica will miss the experience of Conan Osborne, Anthony Bingham, and Samuel Rees, who are replaced by Matthew Coore, Mason Caton-Brown, and Oliver Melville.

Germany have called up playmaker Fabian Heimpel to replace Bastian van der Bosch. Ireland meanwhile recall Olympic captain Billy Davis and speedsters Aaron O’Sullivan and Jordan Conroy with Ed Kelly, Gavin Mullin, and Mark Roche dropping out.

On the Women’s side, Canada have made one change with Ella O’Regan out and Florence Symonds in. The only other change sees the USA’s Nia Toliver missing out with Alena Olsen called in her place.

Broadcasts will be available on the CBC Sports website and app in Canada, Peacock TV in the USA, NBC Sports in the Caribbean, and ESPN in South America. Broadcaster links by country can be seen here. A full schedule for the Men’s event can be seen here, and the Women’s event here.
