Portugal to face Canada in November

Portugal are to face Canada in November. The test match is one of two matches confirmed for Portugal in November. Os Lobos will play at home against Canada on November 06 and Japan on November 13. A third is being lined-up wherein Portugal will face wither Namibia or Chile on the weekend of November 20.

The matches are all to be home games for Os Lobos. They were confirmed by Carlos Amado da Silva, the President of the Federação Portuguesa de Râguebi. (FPR). They serve Portugal as preparation for RWC 2023 qualifiers. Portugal are presently in second place behind Georgia in the European qualifiers.

Portugal and Canada have played four prior test matches. The first was a warm-up match for RWC 2007. Canada were 42-12 winners in Ottawa. That year’s RWC was the first, and only, appearance of Os Lobos at a Men’s Rugby World Cup.

The three subsequent matches were played in Portugal. Canada also won the matches, though two of them were by narrow margins. Canada won 21-13 in 2008; 23-20 in 2010; and 52-8 in 2013.

Portugal’s results since RWC 2019 indicate that the current team is stronger than that from the cycles following RWC 2007. This was demonstrated by a convincing win over Spain earlier this year. Portugal also completed a series win over Brazil in 2020 and won on the road against both Brazil and Chile in 2019.
