Stephen Hoiles to take over as LA Head Coach

Stephen Hoiles will take over the Head Coach position for the LA Giltinis next season. The former Wallabies loose forward steps up from his supporting role on a three-year agreement as he succeeds Darren Coleman, the latter departing to head up the Waratahs in Super Rugby.

Hoiles has overseen the forwards and defense this season with great success. The Giltinis have conceded an average of 18 points a game, the lowest mark in Major League Rugby. In an official release the 39-year-old says fans can expect high standards again next season.

“Being signed for three years is a nice show of loyalty and trust from the GM and team owner. I’m stepping into a new role but I’m confident everything I’ve done in my rugby life has instilled the right values to make the most of this opportunity.

“I’ve been lucky to play under top coaches like Michael Cheika, Eddie Jones, Ewen McKenzie, John Connolly, and Alan Gaffney. Every one I played under I’ve learnt from.

“We are not going to rub the whiteboard clean and start again in 2022. We have established lots of excellent elements and will continue to evolve as every team must.”

This will be the first Head Coach assignment for Hoiles. After retiring as a player in 2017 he was appointed as an Assistant Coach for the Australia Men’s Sevens side. He has also served as General Manager of the Classic Wallabies touring side and was a regular television commentator with Fox Sports.
