Quest for Gold: USA Women undefeated, Argentina top Men’s side

The USA took the spoils in with an undefeated showing in the Women’s bracket at the Quest For Gold Sevens in Los Angeles. A perfect opening day was followed by two wins and a draw against Great Britain on Day Two as the Eagles pressed their case as medal contenders in Tokyo.

It was clear from the opening scores that the two Olympic-bound sides were a class apart, and the schedule was re-jigged on Day Two to allow for more meaningful contests. Jamaica and Mexico would split their head-to-head series with both showing improvement as they tournament progressed.

On the Men’s side it was Argentina who finished top of the field, with a one-score defeat to Great Britain in their final game the only blemish on an otherwise impressive display. Great Britain stepped up from a sluggish Day One to finish 4-2 while the USA were an even 3-3. South Korea’s best moments were against the Brits on Day Two.

With the Women’s Eagles roster already confirmed it’s now down to final deliberations for Mike Friday. He ran the rule over 22 players across the six games with Folua Niua and Perry Baker making notable returns from injury. The final traveling squad for Tokyo will be revealed on Friday, July 2.
