ARN Player of the Week – AJ MacGinty

This past weekend saw the return of professional rugby in England, with the Premiership and Premier 15s both in action after a two-week hiatus. Both the French Top 14 and Pro D2 were also on business as usual. It gave us a few more players than usual to consider.

In the Premiership we saw Agustín Creevy scoring a try for London Irish in the win over Newcastle. The former Pumas captain was also highly visible in defense. Countryman Matías Alemanno was in scoring-form for Gloucester, while over in France their World Cup teammates Pablo Matera and Jerónimo de la Fuente also touched down.

Kate Zackary was a close second on our list this week for an excellent Player of the Match performance in Exeter’s upset win over Saracens. There were other contenders in that game with Olivia DeMerchant enjoying her return to the starting lineup and Sophie de Goede excelling in defeat.

Our winner this week, however, comes from the Premiership. AJ MacGinty has been in top form this campaign and he led Sale to victory at Welford Road. With 10 points from his boot, strong tactical play, and rock-solid defense – he was the second-leading tackler for the Sharks – the Eagles playmaker is our Player of the Week.
