Tucumán Trio returning for Olímpia Lions in 2020

Three Argentine players have been retained to play in Paraguay. The trio are returning for the Olímpia Lions in the 2021 Super Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) season.

N8 Nicolás Proto, fly half Máximo Ledesma, and center Santiago Resino all started for the Olímpia Lions vs Los Ceibos in 2020. The match was Olímpia’s only fixture of the 2020 campaign. The season was suspended early due to the global pandemic.

Proto is a former Argentina XV player. He joined the Olímpia Lions in January 2020 from Spanish side Alcobendas. The 29-year-old is a powerful, hard-running ball-carrier.

Ledesma is also uncapped; but, unlike Proto, he has not played for the Argentina XV. Both players are from Tucumán as is Resino. The center was a mainstay in the Argentina XV. He departed PladAR in late 2019 to join the Paraguayan SLAR side.

The 25-year-old Resino remains an option for international duty. He played Gabriel Ascárate in 2020. The former Pumas name is not attached to the 2021 Olímpia Lions roster.
