Cafeteros Pro Budget

Professional rugby will debut in Colombia in 2021. The country’s first professional team, Los Cafeteros Pro, will compete in the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR). The Colombian side will join teams from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay. The 2021 season will be played from March 16 to May 15.

Competing in SLAR requires a substantial financial injection. Los Cafeteros Pro budget will be US$330,000 reports John Eric Gómez for El Colombiano.

Los Cafeteros Pro will have a 30-man player roster. All players will be paid professionals. An estimated 18 players will be Colombians and the remaining spots will be Argentine players. These players are to be drafted.

The player roster is yet to be finalized. It is, however, currently being assembled. The team will be coached by former Puma Rodolfo Ambrosio. He has notable prior coaching experience including for Los Pumitas and as Brazil’s head coach.

In addition to the playing roster investments are going into uniforms, facilities and the support staff. As noted, the costs total US$330,000.
