Brazil competed against the Netherlands on Saturday in WXV. The international women’s fixture between the teams went the way of the Europeans who narrowly overcame the South Americans. The Netherlands took the win by a scoreline of 17-15.
The tight contest repeated that of the two battles from 2025 in which Brazil and the Netherlands split the series in São Paulo. The 2026 fixture in Hong Kong saw Brazil frustrated with two losses from as many appearances in the WXV.
Brazil started the contest well. Veteran Raquel Kochhann kicked and chased to score the opening try. The Netherlands responded with two first-half tries with winger Kika Mulling scoring from an impressive run a second-rower Inger Jongerius scoring from a pick-and-go.
The second-half stated with the Netherlands furthering their advantage. Hooker Alexis Muggleton scored from a maul to frustrate Brazil as it was a similar try to that conceded by As Yaras against Hong Kong. The score meant the Netherlands held a 10-point lead.
As Yaras responded through the boot of Raquel Kochhann. Her penalty made it a one-score difference. The momentum was suddenly with the South Americans. Replacement back Gisele Gomes put up a high kick which the Netherlands fumbled. Winger Giovanna Barth then scored. However, with the conversion off-target the Netherlands remained two pointed in front.
