Austin signs young American scrumhalf Sidney Shoop

The Austin Gilgronis have signed a third scrumhalf for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. 20-year-old Indiana native Sidney Shoop joins incumbent internationals Marcelo Torrealba and Pele Cowley at the revamped Texas club.

Shoop earned invitations to two High School All-American camps while playing for South Greenville. He attended the Rugby Americas North combine in 2019, and then played for Seattle Rugby in the BC Premier League.

Most recently Shoop has been turning out for Rugby ATL’s development side 404 Rugby. A recommendation from combine coach Scott Wisemantel led the AG’s to offering the youngster a contract, and ATL allowed Shoop to continue playing with 404 through the rest of their fall exhibition campaign.
