Chance Wenglewski signs two-year extension with ATL

US Eagles prop Chance Wenglewski has signed a new contract with Rugby ATL that runs through the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 22-year-old is the fifth player extended by ATL in the off-season following Neethling Gericke, Conor Keys, Matt Heaton, and Duncan van Schalkwyk.

Wenglewski has made a rapid rise through the senior ranks since representing the USA at the 2016 World Rugby u20 Trophy. The loosehead made his test debut against Ireland in 2018 and has now won 6 caps. An injury to David Ainu’u saw Wenglewski called up to the 2019 Rugby World Cup squad in Japan though he did not make a match day appearance.

After a short stint on loan with Rugby United New York at the end of the 2019 MLR season, Wenglewski joined ATL for their inaugural campaign in 2020. He played all five matches, starting three.

ATL’s second-choice loosehead Jamie Ferrante recently confirmed his retirement at the age of 27 to pursue a career in chiropractics. Julian Montes and Cronan Gleeson are both capable of playing on the left side of the scrum but lined up at tighthead in 2020.
