NOLA Gold acquire Devin Short from San Diego

The NOLA Gold have acquired flanker Devin Short from the San Diego Legion in exchange for an extra foreign player slot. With his 22nd birthday just days away he will celebrate with a new contract that sees him tied to New Orleans through the 2022 Major League Rugby season.

Short is regarded as one of the most promising young players in American rugby. At just 19 he started 8 games for the Legion in 2018 and earned selection to the Junior All-American squad for their World Rugby u20 Trophy qualifiers against Canada. The Las Vegas native turned heads again in 2019, starting 11 games to help San Diego reach the MLR Shield Final.

Outgoing Legion coach strangely ignored Short this season, restricting the openside to just three brief appearances off the bench. San Diego have now opted for Chris Robshaw while Short moves to NOLA to join a loose forward group that includes Cam Dolan, Moni Tonga’uiha, Malcolm May, and Collegiate Draft first round pick Andrew Guerra.
