Memorable Americas Tries – Mike Pyke vs New Zealand 2007

Canadian fullback Mike Pyke scored a memorable try against New Zealand in 2007. The score came in a mid-year test match several months out from RWC 2007. The try involved Pyke picking off a New Zealand pass and running 90 meters to score.

Pyke was playing in his fourth year of test rugby. He debuted against the USA in 2004 and earned his final cap against the same opponent in 2018. The early end to his test career came not due to selection but because of a change of sport.

Having been a professional rugby player in Scotland (Edinburgh) and France (Montauban), Pyke made the move to Australia to play Australian Rules Football (AFL). Rugby’s loss was the AFL’s gain as he became an AFL champion for the Sydney Swans.
