Free Jacks sign Eagles lock Ben Landry

The New England Free Jacks have made a sizable splash in the transfer market with the acquisition of US Eagles lock Ben Landry. A free agent since leaving Ealing Trailfinders prior to RWC 2019, the 28-year-old Wisconsin native joins the Boston franchise for the remainder of the 2020 Major League Rugby season.

Landry has collected 25 caps since his test debut in the 2016 Americas Rugby Championship. He appeared in three of the USA’s four RWC matches in Japan, starting against England in Kobe. After playing for the Glendale Raptors during the inaugural 2018 MLR campaign, he spent the 2018-19 Championship season with the Trailfinders, playing 15 games as the club finished runners-up to London Irish.

While the majority of Landry’s international appearances have come in the second row, the 6’6″ (1.98m) powerhouse has also been used on the blindside flank. He split his time at Ealing between the two and could fill either position for the Free Jacks with four locks already on the roster including captain Josh Larsen who played for Canada at the World Cup.
