McGrath names Germany squad for Challenger Series

Head coach Damian McGrath has named a 14-man traveling team for the upcoming South American leg of World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series. Two events will be held prior to the Core Qualifier in Hong Kong. Viña del Mar will start on February 15 with Montevideo taking place the following weekend.

It’s a competitive roster with the likes of Tim Biniak, Sebastian Fromm, and Carlos Soteras-Merz boasting prior qualifier experience. Castres winger Zani Dembele is a boost to the squad, as is Germany XVs flanker Jaco Otto. Former Zimbabwe flyer Manasah Sita is switching his allegiance using the ‘Olympic loophole.’

The ‘Wolfpack’ have been drawn in Pool C for the tournament in Chile. They will compete against Uganda, Italy, and Paraguay in the opening stage. Germany topped their pool in Hong Kong last year but were knocked out of core contention by eventual winners Ireland in the Semi Final.
