Pinkelman earns Sydney Impact award and Dream Team spot

Ben Pinkelman has come away from the Sydney Sevens with a prestigious double. The USA’s stand-in captain was awarded the DHL Impact Player of the tournament while also earning a spot in the official HSBC Men’s Dream Team after leading his side to the Semi Finals.

With regular skipper Madison Hughes out injured, Pinkelman stepped into the leadership role and emerged from the tournament with impressive numbers. His ‘impact’ total of 48 – combining tackles, line breaks, offloads, and carries – was four ahead of second place Angelo Davids.

Pinkelman also scored four tries. He is not only the first Eagles player to earn Dream Team selection this season – with four tournaments played he is the only men’s player from the Americas to do so.

Davids was one of three Blitzboks joining the American in the select side. Namesake Selvyn Davids got the nod in the backs with JC Pretorius named up front. Tournament champions Fiji contribute backs Napolioni Balaca and Waisea Nacuqu, with England’s Ben Harris completing the forwards.
